Thanks to My Mother
When Susie Weksler was eight Hitler’s army invaded the city of Vilnius in Lithuania. This meant the end of their comfortable lives as Susie and her family were moved into the Jewish ghetto where they had their first experiences of lack of space, hunger and loss of human dignity. The horrors of transportation to the concentration camps followed with the young girl experiencing horrors and violation of human rights which changed her forever. Susie’s mother fought every step of the nightmare journey into horror to save her daughter and Susie’s survival is testament to her mother’s courage and ingenuity in the face of incomprehensible inhumanity. This is a very detailed and exact account of the horrors of the Nazi holocaust suited to the older reader.
