Saint Francis

Francis was born into a wealthy Italian family in 1181 and helped his father in his business as a cloth-merchant. He spent his leisure time singing and dancing with his friends.
After hearing the voice of God speaking to him in a ruined church, Francis renounced all his wealth and became a travelling preacher, owning nothing and begging for his food.
He preached to the poor and the sick, and many rich people gave up their wealth and followed him. Even the birds and animals came to hear what he had to say.
