The Ghost's Child

This is a romantic tale about a young girl’s love for a boy called Feather. At the start of the manuscript, an old woman named Matilda comes home to find a teenage boy sitting in her living room. She does not know who he is but does not think it odd to find a complete stranger sitting on her couch, waiting. The old woman tells the boy the story of her life: how she fell in love with Feather, how they lived together on the verge or a great forest, how she became pregnant and miscarried, and how Feather left her. After Feather left Maddy she grieved for a long time. She had a question she was desperate to ask him. She learns how to sail a boat and travels the wide-open seas to find Feather’s mysterious island. When he answers her question, she travels back to the real world and gets on with her life. At story’s end, we find out that the teenage boy is Matilda’s unborn child. She is dead and he has come to take her to the next life.
