Night Beast

At first the wind that sweeps along the coast seems normal enough, if unusually violent, uprooting trees and thrashing buildings. But Cassandra and Nathan soon realise it carries a disease that infects the shadows of living things, turning them into monstrous parasites that consume those who cast them.

Knowing that this evil wind is from the Shadow Realm, Cassandra is forced, against her better judgement, to join Nathan in following the wind to its source—a tear in reality that must not be allowed to stay open.

Worse, there is something forming in the storm that Cassandra finds all too familiar; something she feels she owns. Through the chaos comes the Night Beast, a strange shadowy creature from Cassandra’s own past, which has been awakened by the unnatural winds. As the life she has set up for herself begins to come apart, she feels like she’s losing control of everything she knows.

Then Cassandra finds she is being stalked by a mysterious band of human hunters (the Templars), descendants of a religious sect that believes the Shades hold the key to ultimate earthly power—a key the Templars mean to acquire at any cost.
