The Keeper

Set in a South Australian coastal town this is a novel of complex relationships. The reader is led to an empathetic understanding of why some people behave in ways which are destructive to both themselves and others. Many readers both child and adult will identify with Joel as he struggles to control the overwhelming emotions which trigger his unacceptable behaviour and is ultimately saved by his love of fishing and his friendship with a gentle biker named Dev Eagle. The mystery of Joel’s parents is solved in an exciting climax to a book which is rich in intriguing characterisations. For the reader aged 13+

Rosanne Hawke

Rosanne Hawke was an ESL/Special Needs teacher and has worked in Pakistan, the United Emirates and Australia. She now writes full-time and runs writing workshops for young people in South Australia. Her published works include The Keeper and Sailmaker (a CBCA Notable Book in 2003), Zenna Dare, A Kiss in Every Wave, Borderland and The Collector, which will also be published in June 2004. Roseanne lives in Kapunda, South Australia.
