Willa's Secret

When Willa Winslow decides to keep a secret, little does she know that it will lead her to be summoned to the mountain by Cosmo the Orderly. Willa is drawn into a magical world where order and chaos are constantly out of balance. Can she restore harmony to the mountain?
Willa Winslow and her twin brother Jack are twelve. Willa sees Jack and his friends pasting lawn clippings all over the school principal’s car. But Willa decides to keep it a secret and tells Jack she will ‘save it for later.’
Unfortunately for Willa, she is the last person in a seven-year cycle to keep a secret, have a wish or idea or a good or bad thought. That means she is summoned to the mountain by Cosmo, the Orderly.
When she reaches the mountain Willa meets Cosmo, who makes order amongst all the wishes, ideas, thoughts, secrets etc. that fly around the world. Order is only maintained if they have energy and the energy comes from all the chaos that is generated by the nearby Kingdom of Chaos.

Christine Wenke

Chris Wenke was raised on a farm in central New South Wales. She has spent most of her working life doing administrative work in schools. She is married with two sons and lives in Albury on the NSW/Victorian border. Her life and experience in schools have given her an intuitive understanding of adolescent attitudes and outlook, which comes across strongly in her novel. She also has an abiding interest in local history, and her novel includes a sub-plot loosely based on the exploits of the bushranger Ben Hall in the country around Forbes, NSW. Her unpublished short story, The Tree was shortlisted for the Glen Eira My Brother Jack Prize, and was highly commended at the Henry Lawson Festival. My Sixteenth Summer is her first novel to be published. Her second novel Willa’s Secret is due for release as a Takeaways in July 2004 and is also to be published by Lothian Books.
