The Murderers' Apprentice

The Quentaris Chronicles is a collection of stand-alone fantasy books from some of Australian’s finest authors. Each book is independent, but all are set in the magical fantasy city of Quentaris created by series editors Michael Pryor and Paul Collins.

Like her father and mother before her, Merrith is apprenticed to become an assassin with the Murderers’ Guild. But Merrin is hopeless with a dagger and sword, inept at mixing poison and isn’t quite okay with the idea of killing people anyway. Merrith’s talents, it seems, lie elsewhere.

Just as she is due to begin her apprenticeship, the Guild of Soothsayers instruct Merrith to join an expedition to the rift caves, and it comes with a warning: if she fails to go, Quentaris will be destroyed.

Can Merrith save Quentaris from devious Sorrell, the leader of the expedition? And will she discover her true vocation and escape her supposed destiny as a professional murderess?
