Man Who Wanted to Live Forever

Bodkin enjoys life so much that he wants to live for ever. He consults first the Old Man of the Forest, then the Old Man of the Lake and finally the Old Man of the Mountain, with whom he lives for several hundred years. Then, one fatal day, Bodkin returns to this village…with consequences as terrible as they are unpredictable. This traditional folktale, retold with marvellous wit and style, is illustrated with great feeling for both the rustic comedy and the macabre of the original.

Reg Cartwright

Reg Cartwright worked as an art director for an advertising agency until one of his illustrations was spotted at an exhibition. He was asked if he could make it into a picture book and Mr Potter’s Pigeon was the result, winning the Mother Goose Award in 1980. Since then, Reg has gone on to illustrate many more acclaimed picture books- some in collaboration with his wife, Ann- which have been translated into several different languages. Much of his inspiration comes from walks in the countryside and the local life of their home county of Leicestershire.
