Baby in the Hat, the (an Early Love Story)

A rollicking sequential tale from Allan Ahlberg.

A boy catches a baby in his hat, and with his reward, goes on a ride, which leads to a trip, which leads to an adventure, which leads to a journey with a surprise at the end! Set in nineteenth century England, with train rides, sailing in treacherous seas, pirates, battles, treasure, and ending with love and marriage, this tale is a quirky historical romance!

A great example of sequencing a narrative for young listeners

Allan Ahlberg

In the early 1960s, Allan studied teacher training in Sunderland, where he also met Janet, his future wife. He had tackled a wide variety of jobs, ranging from postman to plumber’s mate before working as a primary teacher for ten years. Janet, however, discovering that she ‘couldn’t do the policing job’, went on to study graphic design, which led her to her vocation as an illustrator.
