Holes

One in a million! Characters, setting and storyline are original, enthralling, complex and beg re-reading. Stanley Yelnats IV is a soft, overweight city boy, wrongly accused of stealing and the gypsy’s curse on his “no-good-dirty-rotten-pig stealing-great-great-grandfather”, Stanley Yelnats I, has fallen upon him. Sent to the desert Camp Green Lake, he and other troubled young boys have to dig a hole five feet by five feet every day. Dangers include thirst, rattlesnakes, deadly jumping lizards, Mr Sir and the Warden. Humour, surreal settings and characters within a fantastic plot make this an unforgettable read for children and adults. A recommended class novel for Year 6+.
