The Sailor Through History

The Sailor Through History is a fascinating account of life as a sailor from ancient times up until the present day. Contemporary quotations, photographs of artefacts and carefully researched reconstruction artwork and maps help to create a detailed picture of a sailor’s life. The book looks at: a Polynesian sailor, a Roman oarsman, a Viking warrior, a Portuguese explorer, a sailor at the time of the spanish Armada, a colonist aboard the Mayflower, a steamship crewman, an ocean liner steward, a U-boat submariner and a crew member on a modern supertanker.
