Matter

It is all around us – we are made of it – everything, everywhere is made up of some form of matter. Some of the earliest scientific experiments attempted to find out what the things around us are made of, and today we are still discovering new forms and combinations of matter. In theory, the total amount of mass and energy, or matter, in the universe never changes. In this book you will see all the different forms that matter can take, the properties of liquids, solids, and gases, the structure of crystals, and how we order the elements in the periodic table. See how carbon is present in millions of different compounds, and learn about molecular and atomic structure. Featuring historic scientific apparatus and ground-breaking experiments and discoveries, Matter is a unique and exciting introduction to this fascinating subject.
