Little Seed

By Gav Barbey About

“One spring day, little seed wanted more.
She didn’t know why, but she did.”

On Monday, little seed somersaults through the open arms of a Joshua tree; on Tuesday, she blows past the statuesque Cedar of Lebanon and on Saturday, she dances in the glow of the flowering Wattle tree. But will she ever find what she is really looking for… her home?

Little Seed is a story of belonging and love, and a story that celebrates the importance and beauty of trees from around the globe. One of Australia’s most original fine artists, Gav Barbey, is an exciting new voice in children’s picture books.

Gav Barbey

Gav Barbey is a much exhibited artist who works in many disciplines including theatre design, film and visual art. The artwork in Little Seed has been created from a pourable polymer paint which Gav co-invented and from which he poured these zen-style illustrations. Gav wrote the first draft of Little Seed for his daughter on an aeroplane, after an agonising three month separation soon after her birth. Gav Barbey now lives in a paint-spattered studio in Sydney, Australia, with his daughter, three goldfish and countless guppies.
