A Flower Fairy Alphabet

From “The Apple Blossom Fairies” to “The Zinnia Fairy,” this collection based on the poems of Cicely Mary Barker includes a fairy song for each letter of the alphabet, with the exception of the letters “u” and “x.” Featuring such traditional instruments as the mandola, Celtic harp, zither, and recorder, the gentle music, reminiscent of the Renaissance, perfectly captures the beauty of the life of the fairies. Beautifully sung by children and adults, the words of Barker’s poems are expertly woven into the music. The liner notes contain the lyrics from each song and several of Barker’s illustrations from her book of the same title. An excellent addition to collections for young children

Cicely Mary Barker

Cicely Mary Barker was born in 1895 in Croydon, South London, and spent most of her life there. Because of ill-health she was educated at home and largely taught herself to draw and paint, encouraged by a supportive family and assisted by membership of the Croydon Art Society. She was only sixteen when she had her first work accepted for publication as a set of postcards, and from that time she devoted her career to painting.
