Caught in a Cyclone

By Robyn Opie About · Illustrated by Naomi Lewis

Lucy wiped her eyes and sniffed. ‘We can’t go without Foxy.’ Dad pulled her into his arms. ‘I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’m worried about Foxy too. But we can’t risk our lives.’ Lucy’s heart ached. If they left the dog alone in a cyclone what would happen to her? Would they ever see her again? On Christmas Eve 1974 Cyclone Tracy hit the city of Darwin, on the north coast of Australia. Caught in a Cyclone tells the story of one family’s experience of that terrifying night. On a deeper level, it is about deciding what is important in life.
