Explorers of Australia

The story of how Australia incognita gradually became known to the outside world is perhaps the greatest Australian story of all. It is a story of courage, folly and ambition that begins with the first outsider’s footsteps on an alien shore and ends with the penetration of the central deserts centuries later.
Explorers of Australia takes a new look at the famous and forgotten names of Australian exploration – men, who motivated by dreams of wealth or scientific curiosity, risked all to chart the unknown. Geoffrey Badger pays particular attention to the challenges of navigation, diet and geography to reveal how the explorers conquered unchartered oceans and deserts – or how the wilderness came to defeat them. Packed with superlative history and human drama Explorers of Australia is truly a voyage of discovery.
