How to Be Good (Ish)

Indie Kidd is a happy, unassuming ten-year-old who lives between her mum’s (an ex-model who now works at an animal rescue centre) and her dad’s. When Indie’s teacher asks the class to put together a CV for themselves, Indie decides she has no specific “talents”, and decides to search for one she can call her own. While she is trying everything from hair-wraps to magic tricks to origami, she sees an advert in the local paper for a little dog who needs a home and decides to help him. She writes him a CV, makes posters for school and even arranges a trial stay with an elderly neighbour – all to no avail. But eventually, Indie realizes she wants the dog to stay with her, and that she does have a talent after all – for doing good! (Though there have been a few scrapes, so maybe just good-ish!)

Lydia Monks

Lydia Monks, the widely celebrated English author and illustrator of children’s books, finds that her main sources of inspiration come from everyday life. And from everyday life comes three kooky and original picture story books about animals that are delightfully dysfunctional. There is a cat that wishes she was a dog, a spider that wants to become part of a family and a donkey who thinks he is an alarm clock. This September, her latest release More Eee-Orrh! will join Aaaarrgghh Spider! and I Wish I Were a Dog (new in board book in September) as Lydia Monks titles that are destined to become best-loved children’s books.
