If

A gift edition of Kipling’s classic poem — particularly appropriate for young scholars.
When Rudyard Kipling wrote ‘If…’ in 1909, he was addressing his 12-year-old son, John, who would die in battle a few short years later during World War I. The famous author’s words soon inspired a nation, and the poem has twice been named Great Britain’s favourite. Italian illustrator Giovanni Manna melds the innocence of childhood with the encouraging sentiments expressed by Kipling’s words in this tender portrayal.

Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India. The Jungle Book, which he published in 1894, became a children’s classic all over the world. Tales of every kind continued to flow from Kipling’s pen, including Kim (1901) and Just So Stories (1902). Kipling was the first English writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, and in 1926 he received the Gold Medal of the Royal Society of Literature.
