Moon Bear Rescue

This is the true story of a moon bear called Star. It describes Star’s rescue from a cruel life where he is being milked for his bile to make medicine. Detailing his journey to a sanctuary and the trauma of his separation from his mother, this picture book follows the life of Star in sincere, touching detail. The horror of moon bears treatment is exquisitely realised.

The wounds metal catheters created in Star’s gall bladder will heal, but the real challenge is healing Star’s soul. This cub must rediscover trust in people and reclaim his spirit before he can understand his surroundings and embrace life.

Moon Bear Rescue honours an American woman, Jill Robinson, who has spent years fighting to promote awareness of this cause and has set up a moon bear rescue centre and sanctuary in China. This picture book aims to honour humanitarian concerns and help children realise that one person can make a difference.
