Out of the Ashes

Written in diary format this book tells the story of the horrors of the foot and mouth disease epidemic which swept through Europe as experienced by thirteen year old Becky. The heartache of the killing and burning of farm animals is very real and personified by the death of Becky’s pet lamb and her father’s breakdown and hospitalisation. The realistic horrors of the destruction of life and the fear of her father’s suicide make this a book for the reader aged 12+
