Looking at her father’s final, unfinished painting, Sara Ferguson sees within it something worthwhile and beautiful, just like her memories of him.

But then she meets Ben Goodwin. In his quiet but determined way he enters her world and shatters her dream, forcing her to recognise that what she possesses is not a legacy but an obligation. And the debt is already well overdue…

The final painting poses many questions — but will it give up its secrets before Ben and Sara are forced to pay the ultimate price?

Another fantastic story from the author of Mandragora, which was shortlisted for the 1992 Children’s Book Council Book of the Year Award for Older Readers. David’s most recent young adult novel, See How They Run, was made into a mini-series and recently screened on the ABC.
