Prince Ivan and the Firebird

Who is stealing the King’s golden apples? King Vyslav’s most precious tree is being robbed every night, and nobody can catch the thief. He asks his two eldest sons to keep watch, but they fall asleep in the orchard and see nothing. Only the youngest, Prince Ivan, manages to stay awake and see the miraculous firebird fly down into the tree, as bright as the sun. Ivan pulls a gleaming feather from her tail. When the king sees this, he sets his heart on having the firebird for himself.
So begins Prince Ivan’s journey. How can he capture the elusive firebird? Many strange turns of fate lie in his path. The fearsome Grey Wolf kills his horse, then becomes his invaluable helper. Together Grey Wolf and Ivan must overcome a succession of challenges before they can find the firebird and bring her back to the king. Each time their prize is glimpsed, it seems simple to grasp – but something always happens that shows the prince he must learn as he goes along.
