Rebjorn

Carrying on from where New Bjorn left off, Rebjorn rejoins our heroes Erik Nerdenburger and Bjorn Berg, after they successfully reversed the spell of an enchantress that turned Bjorn into a moose. Now restored to his Viking glory, Bjorn is ready for further adventures with his trusty sidekick. This time Bjorn wants to get a guernsey in the Viking Limbpicks, a bizarre sporting contest that requires competitors to choose a certain limb for each of three events. Bjorn wants to uphold the honour of his clan, the Jerks, but he also wants to impress his romantic interest, Erica.

In the meantime, Bjorn starts a business selling dragon scales to uninitiated Jerks, who are required to procure a dragon scale to become a ‘man’. There’s nothing in the rules that says the boy must himself pluck the scale from a dragon. So Bjorn harvests scales from his ex-girlfriend’s pet dragon, Rex, whom they have not been able to get rid of.

Bjorn starts getting very itchy, and when he breaks out in a lot of fur and grows a pear-shaped nose, it appears that he is turning back into a moose. Bjorn is sanguine about his metamorphosis; at least he’ll be able to win the running race in the Limbpicks. But, how will he reverse the spell this time?

Kathryn England

Kathryn England is a descendant of Erik Nerdenburger. She knows this because she doesn’t like flapping swords, clanging shields, wielding spears or swinging spiky balls around and she looks really silly in a winged helmet. She lives in Sydney with her husband and youngest son, where she writes the kind of stories that kids can almost believe. She is also the author of The Rescue of Princess Athena (Lothian, 2000) and New Bjorn (Lothian, 2002), both published in Lothian’s Takeaways series.
