Refugee the Diary of Ali Ismail Woomera, 2001-2002

Ali Ismail is a refugee. In Afghanistan, the Taliban have murdered his father and Ali’s uncle smuggles him out of the country to safety in Australia. But instead of finding freedom, Ali is taken to a detention centre in the South Australian Outback. For twelve long months, as he waits to find out whether or not he will be allowed to stay, Ali endures the hardship and despair of mandatory detention.
