Tatterhood and Other Feisty Folk Tales

Long ago, when bathtubs were rare and even queens had tangles…Tatterhood is brazen, bold and tougher than troll-hags, but she knows how to charm a cranky prince. The farmer’s daughter has a mind of her own too: she won’t marry the squire, says she, ‘Not even if he was up to his ears in gold – which he isn’t.’Hill-trolls, villains, princes and squires are no match for the gutsy heroines in this book. They know what they want, and they get it! These tales from Norway, translated and retold by Margrete Lamond, are fresh as mint and twice as saucy – perfect for reading aloud.
