The Longest War
Set in New Haven in 1982 The Longest War is told by 12 year old Lisa, the daughter of a nurse who served in Vietnam and a soldier who was killed in action. Lisa’s class is working on a project about the Vietnam War to coincide with the building of the Wall (the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial) but Lisa is struggling to create her own memorial and to help her mother cope with post-traumatic stress. This upper primary novel gives a sensitive view of war and especially the role of women in Vietnam.
