The Rabbit Girl
From the award-winning author of Esty’s Gold
What is the secret of the Rabbit Girl picture? Its mystery spans seventy years and two intriguing and intertwining stories: one of 1940s evacuees who befriend an old lady in the Lake District, the other of modern-day Mallie who tries to cheer up her mum by setting up a romance for her and buying her an old drawing…Can a dusty old picture draw the past and present together? When WW2 breaks out, Tony is evacuated to the Lake District where he meets tough-talking Alice. Alice introduces him to an old lady who has befriended her. The three meet up every evening and the old lady draws a sketch of Alice holding a rabbit. In present-day London, teenage Mallie takes a part-time job helping in a pet shop after school because her single mum never has any money. With her first wages, Mallie buys a picture in an antique shop for her mother’s birthday – a framed sketch of a girl holding a rabbit. But when the old man who owns the pet shop sees the picture, he insists it is his.
