The Tiggie Tompson Show

Tiggie Tompson is an overweight teenager with a famous TV host mother and a successful father. Tiggie’s low self esteem is constantly reinforced by verbal and physical abuse from her peers and even her parents’ comments about not overeating and getting more exercise. When she moves to a new school Tiggie is caught in a series of chance events which lead to her ultimately winning a part in a new TV soapie which leads to even greater opportunities. A success story where the overweight girl gradually develops more self confidence and as she does so her weight also slowly decreases. There is a strong message against the media’s creation of unrealistic body images in young females which can result in life threatening eating disorders. Occasional bad language makes the book suitable for older readers.
