The Turkey Prince

When the pressure is too much (your parents expect you’ll be king someday) and you just feel like running away (because they force you to speak to a whole banquet room full of their royal subjects) that’s when it’s time to quit being a prince and start being a turkey!That’s exactly what happens in The Turkey Prince. But unfortunately, it’s not that simple, because when your dad and mum are king and queen, they won’t just leave you alone to peck at food underneath the table and sit around all day in nothing but your underpants. They are going to call physicians, nurses, sages, and monks from miles around to try and cure you. So, as happens in the case of The Turkey Prince, that’s what Mum and Dad do. But nothing works. That is, until someone very particular comes along, and thoughtfully discovers how to help.Here’s an old Hassidic tale, retold by storyteller Izzi Tooinsky, and brought to life with Edwina White’s magical and otherworldly illustrations. It will touch everyone – young or old – who knows how it feels to be a turkey.
