The Waterhole Board Book

A brilliant new edition of Graeme Base’s best-selling picture book – redesigned for an even younger audience and featuring a simplified text.

The Waterhole is a beautiful 1 to 10 counting book featuring familiar animals drinking at a waterhole: One Rhino, Two Tigers, Three Toucans, and so on. But gradually the waterhole is drying up, a fact visually reinforced by a series of ever-smaller cut-aways of the waterhole. The waterhole shrinks until eventually it is nothing but cracked, dry mud. Will the rains come? In a glorious finale the waterhole is full and all the animals come back.

Hopping around amongst the trees and bushes is a group of frogs. Ten at first, their number diminishing until only one remains. The last frog is packing up and leaving when the rains finally come, heralding the end of the drought, and all the frogs come back to celebrate.

This is a perfect edition for early childhood centres and for teachers of early primary: the shape and size are ideal for small hands. This will be an essential book in every school and a perfect first book for any child.
